An essential element of a successful PFF program is providing individualized mentoring to participants. Mentors are not the participants’ major professors, but rather other faculty from either the students’ university or a partner institution. Becoming a PFF faculty mentor can be a rewarding experience for a number of reasons, as it:
- Allows to demonstrate mentoring commitment in efforts to recruit prospective graduate students
- Provides enhanced professional training which may be a requirement for grants such as IGERT, GAANNS, VIGRE, and other federal programs
- Increases interdepartmental and inter-institutional networking opportunities
- Provides opportunities for contributing to graduate students’ teaching excellence at ISU and to their success on the academic job market
- And more.
